FORTNITE × Attack on Titan

In April 2023, Attack on Titan collaborated with Fortnite, a massively popular online battle royale TPS (third-person shooter) game developed by an American video game developer Epic Games. Completing the game's collaboration quests unlocked the costume of the main character Eren Jaeger, and the costumes of Captain Levi and Mikasa Ackerman were available for purchase in the Item Shop. Users were also able to get collaborative weapons and items that recreated the AOT world, such as the Omni-Directional Mobility Gear and Thunder Spears, from ground loot, treasure chests, and Scout Regiment footlockers. The announcement video posted on Fortnite's official Youtube channel received over 1.35 million views and more than 1,000 comments from fans since the announcement, generating a huge buzz.

The collaboration between a blockbuster online game with over 500 million registered users worldwide and an internationally popular manga with more than 110 million copies sold and translated and published in over 40 countries was universally well-received.

New Balance × Ghost in the Shell

Under the theme of “SportsxArt,” New Balance has been collaborating with modern artists who have taken the world by storm, in its “9BOX” graphic T-shirt series. This is the second such collaborative initiative between them and the anime TV show Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045. Continuing on from the well-received first collection, the new collection also features an original graphic T-shirt design by illustrator Ilya Kuvshinov, who was in charge of character design in the show, as well as a new tote bag.

To commemorate the release, New Balance teamed up with the Rolling Stone Japan magazine to distribute free magazines featuring Motoko Kusanagi, the main character, and the other characters wearing the original T-shirts in a fashionable style in Shibuya and Harajuku. In addition, a photo frame for smartphones was released on the official New Balance store application, allowing users to take pictures with the characters. Also, an AI robot Tachikoma, which plays a vital role in the anime, was displayed at New Balance Harajuku, attracting a great deal of attention.
